Dean Gerrie established his namesake design consultancy in Newport Beach, Ca. in 1977. Quickly evolving to provide comprehensive brand strategies through an interdisciplinary platform, the firm created advertising and marketing programs, graphic design, interior design and identity systems. The practice – evolving from a simple graphic design consultancy to advertising agency and finally, a comprehensive brand development firm – garnered national and international acclaim receiving over 200 awards for excellence from the likes of Communications Arts, Print, AIGA and others.
Dean Gerrie maintained industry leadership as a charter member of Art Direction and Design in Orange County and founder of the Orange County Chapter of the American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA). In the fine art arena he was accepted as a member of OCCCA artist collective where he remained a member for 3 years. He has lectured extensively and provided curriculum development and instruction for UCI Extension and the Art Institute of Southern California.
Having enjoyed 20 years as a successful entrepreneur and securing a reputation as a savvy branding specialist, Dean Gerrie left the agency side and joined BJ’s Restaurants, Inc. as Chief Design / Brand Officer. His new position challenged him to completely characterize the small, $6 million Restaurant Company as an emerging growth concept.
Over a 10 year stint Dean helped to envision a soulful brand by spearheading the design and development of 60+ restaurants and creating a brand voice that allowed the company to achieve over 40 consecutive quarters of positive same store sales increases, revenues approaching $300 million and a reputation as one of America’s top premium casual dining growth concepts.
